[kubuntu] remote desktop help needed

I have two pcs each runing Kubuntu 12.10 and connected to the same router (both wirelessly).

I have looked at krdc (because it was available on the start menu!), entering the ip address of the other computer using vnc produces "server not found". Entering the ip address under rdp just gives me a blue screen.

I don’t really know wht I’m doing so any help would be appreciated.

[other_os] Puppy Wary 5 noobie help please!

I’m honestly not sure if this is the right forum, but i figured this is such a simple question someone here would know. I’m using puppy wary 5 to get files from a broken windows xp system. I can access the internal hard drive but when i plug in an external hard drive and try to copy i get an error: "cp: cannot create regular file `/mnt/sdg1/janece 1979.jpg’: Read-only file system" I’m guessing i just have to set it to not be read only… But I can’t figure out how.

Thanks in advance.

[ubuntu] Need help recovering data

I desperately need help.. Think I just made a major mistake…

I was trying to "reclaim" part of a drive that was no longer being used – long story, but had problems updating to Ocelot and had copy of Ocelot installed on second drive and used this install to recover primary installation. Now that primary install is OK, wanted to get this drive space back.

I was trying to use disk utility to format this portion, and looks like I reformatted the entire drive!!!

I really thought I knew what I was doing, so I can’t give the entire process that I followed (i.e. first selected format volume, etc.). But at this point this drive shows up as unallocated space. I had a LOT of information on this drive that I do not want to lose – pictures of kids, videos, etc.

Is there anything I can do, or any measure I can take to recover this partition? I’m not sure if the drive is truly formatted and wiped clean, but I didn’t want to monkey with it any more until I get some expert advice.

If you haven’t noticed, I am a complete novice at Linux, so any help/guidance/prayers for recovering this data would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

[ubuntu] Help with built-in wireless card

Hello,

I’m trying to figure out how to get network manager to not use my intel 3945abg (iwl3945 chipset) and instead use my more powerful d-link dwa-130 on Ubuntu 10.10 (2.6.35-22 generic)

I right click on my wireless network connection -> connection information

amongst other network info, it says:
Driver: iwl3945 (wlan0)

any ideas on how to configure it to use the rtl8187 on wlan1? I’m having difficulties finding documentation on it.

Thanks!
