Luxoft Releases Android/Linux SDK for iviLink Automotive Connectivity Platform
Filderstadt, Germany (PRWEB) October 29, 2012
Luxoft, a member of IBS Group and a leading global provider of advanced application and product development services, announced the release of the iviLink Software Development Kit (SDK) for Android and Linux at the Telematics Munich 2012 Conference and Exhibition. The iviLink SDK gives developers the tools to create applications that can be run on a mobile device and a car’s head unit, radio, or rear seat entertainment system. iviLink is an open source in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) connectivity platform that enables seamless connectivity between mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablet PCs, and in-vehicle infotainment systems. The iviLink SDK is free to download at http://www.ivilink.net/sdk.
The SDK provides an insight into iviLink’s symmetric architecture to help developers understand its working model, wide range of usage models it supports, and the tools to design, test, and deploy solutions that enhance a vehicle’s mobile device capabilities, while minimizing human capital and financial investment. With iviLink automotive OEMs can create a variety of their own car-centric apps, as well as an ecosystem supporting third-party app developers.
“We designed the open source iviLink to be a perfect reference platform for a two way symmetric communication between apps on mobile devices and a head unit of the car, whether it has a high resolution screen or just a small one-line LCD display,” said Vasiliy Suvorov, Vice President of Technology Strategy at Luxoft.
With iviLink OEM-controlled two-way app integration and multi-media content sharing, including cloud-based content, can be accomplished quickly, cost-effectively, and securely for current and future IVI systems. It even offers new technology support for head units of the models that are already in the field. iviLink SDK v.1.1.2 for Android and Linux includes source code, quick-start documentation and sample applications. The highlights of SDK v.1.1.2 include:
iviLink core for Android 2.2 and higher. Install iviLink not only onto a head unit, but also on an Android phone or a tablet PC to test how they will work together.
Easy install and configuration. Use a connection layer to add iviLink’s AppLib and APIs, the iviLink core stack will do everything else for you.
Sample applications. Several demo applications are bundled with the SDK to help developers deploy iviLink as quickly as possible.
iviLink is an open source platform for IVI development and is compatible with the specifications of the GENIVI Alliance. The iviLink platform is designed to work with multiple operating systems (Android, iOS, and Linux) and can operate over multiple wireless or wired technologies (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, etc.) The SDK v.1.1.2 supports Ubuntu on head units and Android on both, head units and mobile devices. iOS support is available in the trial mode. An upcoming version of the SDK will support HTML5-based remote HMI.
“We are currently working with our peers in the GENIVI Alliance to specify common APIs that will allow iviLink and similar connectivity technologies to be readily and easily delivered on a GENIVI-compliant platform. We are looking forward to a future consolidation of connectivity technologies to enable development of a vibrant car-connected applications’ ecosystem that will be attractive to a wide range of mobile apps developers. In the meantime, our new iviLink SDK is the tool that lets the developers fully understand this technology and start developing new apps,” said Suvorov.
