Hello ubuntu community.
This is my first post and my english is not quite good.
When I installed xubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx I couldn’t modify the screen resolution
I have a 23′ screen, so is 1920×1080.
Video card: ASUS EAH6850
MB: PH67A-C43
So I followed this thread
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI
But after the final reboot and write fglrxinfo
Quote:
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 139 (ATIFGLEXTENSION)
Minor opcode of failed request: 66 ()
Serial number of failed request: 13
Current serial number in output stream: 13

It reaches max resolution though, but vertical refresh is extremly slow.
So I implore your help to guide me in the solution of this problem. I don’t undertand linux very much. But the concept in fact is very attractive so I want to initiate myself on it, even if my stomach hurt when I see the black and creepy terminal.
Best regards

I want to use Nautilus on my laptop to browse the ftp shared files on my pc.
When I use Nautilus to connect to my pc on the LAN, everything works fine. When using the ftp command to connect to my pc using an external ip address, it works fine as well.
But when I try to connect to my pc using Nautilus and an external ip address, Nautilus keeps loading for a very long time and eventually gives the following error:
Quote:
The folder contents could not be displayed.
Sorry, could not display all the contents of "/ on my.domain": DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

I am able to browse files using Nautilus and ftp on an external server.

When I try to change the volume nothing happens. The volume slider in the sound indicator is inactive and when I click the "sound preferences" nothing happens. I can get sound from some applications, like banshee and spotify through wine, but Totem and games like teeworlds won’t play any sound.
I’ve had this problem before ever since 8.04, but normally I could just restart the session and get it to work again. Suddenly that won’t work and it annoys me a bit.
Thanks for help
