Canonical drops the Ubuntu Edge smartphone price to $695 (for 2 weeks)

Canonical’s effort to raise money for an Ubuntu Edge smartphone kicked off to a great start last month, raising 10 percent of the $ 32 million goal in the first day. But two weeks later, and half-way through the crowd-funding campaign, the project has still raised less than $ 9 million from folks interested in the idea of a phone that dual-boots Android and Ubuntu and which functions as a mobile phone and a desktop computer.

Canonical Releases First Ubuntu With Linux Kernel 3.0

Ubuntu 11.10 alpha 3 includes Wi-Fi driver support for Realtek’s RTL8192CU, RTL8188CU as well as RT53xx chipsets. The current alpha still integrates Gnome 3.1.4 while the final version is likely to get Gnome 3.2. Canonical confirms Apr. 28 release for Ubuntu 11.04, online trial version

Canonical confirmed that it will ship Ubuntu 11.04 (“Natty Narwhal”) on April 28, and announced a new online trial version of the Linux operating system. The U.K.-based company also announced some new details of its server edition, including easier provisioning and a fully certified J2EE stack.

Canonical switches to OpenStack for Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud

Canonical retires Shipit
