[ubuntu] static ip setup problem?

The ubuntu 13.04 box is connected to the ADSL router, the netwrok manager is enable and the router dhcp assign ip address to the eth0 in every boot, i want to confgire the eth0 for the static ip, i desable the network manager and confgiure the /etc/network/interface:

Quote:

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# The primary network interface
allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.10
gateway 192.168.1.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
network 192.168.1.0
broadcast 192.168.1.255
# dns-* options are implemented by the resolvconf package, if installed
dns-nameservers 192.168.1.1
dns-search Router

But after boot there is no any network interface up and no any network connection avaliable:

Quote:

#ifconfig
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0

vsftpd permissions problem

Hello,

i have just started up a new webserver on my ubuntu 12.10 server and i got a problem with my vsftpd. So the problem is that i can’t get the files/folders i upload with the correct permissions at all. I have done some reading on umask
and so some hours now and i still can’t fix it. I need my folders and files to be writable(777 or 755 don’t remember). And at the same time i have a problem that the ftp user can not delete some of the folders he/she uploads.

My vsftpd config:

Code:

# Example config file /etc/vsftpd.conf#
# The default compiled in settings are fairly paranoid. This sample file
# loosens things up a bit, to make the ftp daemon more usable.
# Please see vsftpd.conf.5 for all compiled in defaults.
#
# READ THIS: This example file is NOT an exhaustive list of vsftpd options.
# Please read the vsftpd.conf.5 manual page to get a full idea of vsftpd's
# capabilities.
#
#
# Run standalone?  vsftpd can run either from an inetd or as a standalone
# daemon started from an initscript.
listen=YES
#
# Run standalone with IPv6?
# Like the listen parameter, except vsftpd will listen on an IPv6 socket
# instead of an IPv4 one. This parameter and the listen parameter are mutually
# exclusive.
#listen_ipv6=YES
#
# Allow anonymous FTP? (Disabled by default)
anonymous_enable=NO
#
# Uncomment this to allow local users to log in.
local_enable=YES
#
# Uncomment this to enable any form of FTP write command.
write_enable=YES
#
# Default umask for local users is 077. You may wish to change this to 022,
# if your users expect that (022 is used by most other ftpd's)
local_umask=002
#
# Uncomment this to allow the anonymous FTP user to upload files. This only
# has an effect if the above global write enable is activated. Also, you will
# obviously need to create a directory writable by the FTP user.
#anon_upload_enable=YES
#
# Uncomment this if you want the anonymous FTP user to be able to create
# new directories.
#anon_mkdir_write_enable=YES
#
# Activate directory messages - messages given to remote users when they
# go into a certain directory.
dirmessage_enable=YES
#
# If enabled, vsftpd will display directory listings with the time
# in  your  local  time  zone.  The default is to display GMT. The
# times returned by the MDTM FTP command are also affected by this
# option.

#
# Activate logging of uploads/downloads.
xferlog_enable=YES
#
# Make sure PORT transfer connections originate from port 20 (ftp-data).

#
# You may override where the log file goes if you like. The default is shown
# below.
#xferlog_file=/var/log/vsftpd.log
#
# If you want, you can have your log file in standard ftpd xferlog format.
# Note that the default log file location is /var/log/xferlog in this case.
#xferlog_std_format=YES
#
# You may change the default value for timing out an idle session.
#idle_session_timeout=600
#
# You may change the default value for timing out a data connection.
#data_connection_timeout=120
#
# It is recommended that you define on your system a unique user which the
# ftp server can use as a totally isolated and unprivileged user.
#nopriv_user=ftpsecure
#
# Enable this and the server will recognise asynchronous ABOR requests. Not
# recommended for security (the code is non-trivial). Not enabling it,
# however, may confuse older FTP clients.
#async_abor_enable=YES
#
# By default the server will pretend to allow ASCII mode but in fact ignore
# the request. Turn on the below options to have the server actually do ASCII
# mangling on files when in ASCII mode.
# Beware that on some FTP servers, ASCII support allows a denial of service
# attack (DoS) via the command "SIZE /big/file" in ASCII mode. vsftpd
# predicted this attack and has always been safe, reporting the size of the
# raw file.
# ASCII mangling is a horrible feature of the protocol.
#ascii_upload_enable=YES
#ascii_download_enable=YES
#
# You may fully customise the login banner string:

# (default follows)
#banned_email_file=/etc/vsftpd.banned_emails
#
# You may restrict local users to their home directories.  See the FAQ for
# the possible risks in this before using chroot_local_user or
# chroot_list_enable below.
#chroot_local_user=YES
#
# You may specify an explicit list of local users to chroot() to their home
# directory. If chroot_local_user is YES, then this list becomes a list of
# users to NOT chroot().
# (Warning! chroot'ing can be very dangerous. If using chroot, make sure that
# the user does not have write access to the top level directory within the
# chroot)
#chroot_local_user=YES
#chroot_list_enable=YES
# (default follows)
#chroot_list_file=/etc/vsftpd.chroot_list
#
# You may activate the "-R" option to the builtin ls. This is disabled by
# default to avoid remote users being able to cause excessive I/O on large
# sites. However, some broken FTP clients such as "ncftp" and "mirror" assume
# the presence of the "-R" option, so there is a strong case for enabling it.
#ls_recurse_enable=YES

# Customization

# Some of vsftpd's settings don't fit the filesystem layout by

#
# This option should be the name of a directory which is empty.  Also, the

[ubuntu] Problem with MSI Radeon HD 7750 and VIA® VT1708S

Hi there.

I have a really wierd problem with my sound…
I have ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit installed.
My motherboard is a Asrock P43DE, modelpage below

That seemed to work fine.

The thing is that when I use my headphones I can get sound bort from my frontpanel on my case as well as with line out on the motherboard.

BUT, I cant get any sound to my LCD TV from any of these outputs. I have tried to connect my TV with a 3,5mm plug in both the front and back outputs but cannot get any sound at all to the tv. As i said, with my headphones everything is OK.

Since I have a dual installation with Windows 7 I can reboot to that and get sound to the TV both from the front panel and fron the rear,

How is this possible?
How can I get sound to my headphones but not to my tv from the same outputs?
Both outputs work fine with both headphones and tv in Windows 7.

Somebody please help me because its driving me insane and I dont want to reboot everytime I want to watch a movie in my bedroom.

Just sp you know, I am a complete noob but i really want to make the shift to Linux so please help me in a way that a mortal noob can understand.

[ubuntu] Chrome Firefox extensions problem

I have for some time suspected that web sites would modify web browsers for their own purposes

this essay tends to confirm that, in spades Reference C/Net 2012-12-26

worse, it seems they let the "extension" (un authorized program) install itself and then graciously "permit" the owner to "authorize" it — or leave it suspended

to me program modifications should be blocked, period. otherwise it leaves us to ask: what all is our browser actually doing ? it executes using the logged on user’s authority and thus has access to everything the logged on user has access to .

do we have any detailed information on what the Canonical supplied app armor for Firefox protects ?

[ubuntu] problem with temperature on a hp 4310s running ubuntu 12.04

the laptop is a hp 4310s with :
GPU : Radeon HD 4300 Series card (this goes up to 72-73 C)
CPU : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6670 @ 2.20GHz
Running ubuntu 12.04 32 bit with gnome shell
the problem is that the gpu goes 72-73 C on startup which i think i too high.
i have tried the proprietary drivers but the problem is that when i install it the cpu usage and temp goes up.
Today i found out that my processor is 64 bit, the question is if i install the 64 bit will the temperature go down?
any other fix for this temperature problem?
i love ubuntu and i don’t want to change the os.
P.S not sure which prefix to choose…

[ubuntu] Problem with consoles and graphics

Hello everyone,

I’ve been using Ubuntu for about a year now and I’m slowly learning it’s workings. Mostly problems I solve by trial-and-error with a little help from the internet.

One problem I haven´t been able to resolve. Whenever I try to bring up a console (alt-ctrl-F1,F2, etc.) my screen goes runny white, looking almost as if it’s melting. Alt-ctrl-F7 returns me to Ubuntu without problems. This strange screen also appears when shutting down and between logging out and logging back in.

When I originally installed Ubuntu (10.10) the consoles worked fine. The problem only started after I upgraded to 11.04 and persisted after I got 11.10.

I tried fiddling around with some of the suggestions on the internet (mostly the VGA= setting in Grub, changed from ’799′ to ‘normal’), but nothing seems to have any noticable effect.

Hopefully someone can help me fix this problem. You’d make me a very happy Ubuntu-user! (Ubuntuser? :D )

Thanks in advance!

Heinus Horatius.

My system:

Sony Vaio VPCF12M1E
Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit
Nvidia GeForce GT 330M – Driver 285.05.09 – Screen res. 1920×1080
