This happened after i installed the latest updates (from update manager) yesterday. I don’t remember installing anything else than that. I use dual boot with windows home premium x64 + Ubuntu 12.04 with gnome 3.4 desktop environment. I installed gnome last week and i was enjoying the best experience i really ever had in linux with this set up. When i try to load Ubuntu, it shows standard Ubuntu loading screen and then a black command prompt comes up (with my computer’s name and something like ‘tty1′ at the end) asking me my user name and password. I enter my user name and pass but it never accepts. always prompts ‘wrong user name/pass’. What’s wrong? how can i save my ubuntu?
Can’t get by installing mscorefonts while installing Synaptic.
While installing Synaptic or Ubuntu extras from the command in terminal using apt-get install this screen pops up "Installing ttf mscorefonts" and I can’t get out of it to continue the install.
Any idea how to move on in the install?
This is the only way I can install because the Software Center does not work in 12.04 Alpha 1.
[ubuntu] Can’t get to X in new Ocelot install
So I just installed ocelot from USB using the minimal / netinstall. Everything went smoothly, except that grub was installed to /dev/sdb (usb drive) even though ubuntu was installing to a partition on /dev/sda…. go figure…
Now grub works, but I’m greeted with just a blank screen with a blinking white cursor. If I press ctrl-alt-f7 I see a message "Checking for running unattended-upgrades:" and that’s it.
I can log in to the system on another tty and everything appears to be working. When I try to start X I just get a blank screen.
Where should I go from here?
