How to Set Up a Secure Proxy Server in Ubuntu Linux

Internet security is almost an oxymoron, as a computer connected to the Internet is the least secure of machines. However, many organizations have found ways to protect the internal network from Internet attacks as well as ensure that employees are not violating the Internet use policy. One of those solutions is a proxy server, which sits between the client computer and the Internet, intercepting packets and ensuring a higher level of security for the network than is otherwise possible. Squid is the de facto proxy standard for Ubuntu Linux installations.

X2Engine Introduces X2 Virtual Private Server Edition Cloud Based Customer Relationship Management Application

X2Engine Introduces X2 Virtual Private Server Edition Cloud Based Customer Relationship Management Application

X2CRM VPS

Santa Cruz, CA (PRWEB) October 16, 2012

X2Engine today announced the introduction of X2CRM Virtual Private Server Edition, a next generation software as a service sales management application and hosting platform. X2VPS is a specialized virtual private server that combines the power of a fully managed server with the ease of use of a cloud based CRM system.

In addition to X2CRM 2.0’s sales force management capabilities, X2VPS gives system administrators full control of virtual CentOS or Ubuntu powered cloud server. Designed for speed and flexibility, X2VPS incorporates a purpose built, compact design eliminating the black box, hotel style hosting approaches used by older monolithic CRM systems, and thus gives system administrators the power of a modern virtual server without the cost of hardware and a datacenter.

“With X2VPS, CRM systems administrators have complete control of their virtual private servers running open standards based server operating systems,” said John Roberts, founder of X2Engine. “Why lock yourself into monolithic, hotel style CRM hosting platforms that were invented decades ago, when you can have the power and control of your very own virtual private server and for at a fraction of the cost.”

X2CRM Virtual Private Server Key Features:

X2CRM 2.0 – Customer Relationship Management

Virtualmin Server Admin Control Panel

Shell/SSH Access

FTP Accounts

Apache / PHP

MySQL Databases

Daily, Weekly Remote Backups

Subdomains

AWStats Server Statistics Tool

Monthly Billing

Serv-U FTP Server Added to SUSE Linux Enterprise Software Catalog

Serv-U FTP Server Added to SUSE Linux Enterprise Software Catalog

Serv-U FTP server has been added to the SUSE Enterprise Linux product catalog.

Alpharetta, Georgia (PRWEB) October 24, 2012

Serv-U FTP Server was added to the official SUSE Enterprise Linux product catalog today as a secure file transfer application after RhinoSoft joined the SUSE partner program as an independent software vendor (ISV).

“When we ported Serv-U to Linux last year it gave Linux administrators new FTP server capabilities like web-based administration, mobile transfers and integration with third-party portals,” said RhinoSoft President Mark Peterson. “This week we reaffirmed our commitment to the Linux community by aligning with the original provider of enterprise Linux distributions.”

Serv-U’s Linux support extends across its entire Serv-U product line. Included are four editions of Serv-U (Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum) and both Serv-U modules: FTP Voyager JV for rich web transfers, and Serv-U Gateway for DMZ deployments.

In addition to SUSE, Serv-U also supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Fedora, Ubuntu, Mint, CentOS and the Amazon Linux AMI for its EC2 cloud computing deployment.

“Our solutions make secure file transfer affordable to businesses, especially those whose IT departments are dealing with flat or shrinking budgets,” said RhinoSoft VP of Product Management Jonathan Lampe. “Supporting Serv-U on a wide variety of platforms, including top Linux plaforms, helps our customers save money through reduced training and overhead costs.”

Despite its name the SUSE product catalog is not an onsite store but rather a reference for SUSE customers looking for secure file transfer and other solutions.

“This is a great opportunity for our resellers and distributors to expand their footprint with existing customers or seek out new customers in the SUSE community,” said Lampe. “Serv-U provides them a unique opportunity to provide secure file transfer for a price that will fit in anyone’s 2013 IT budget.”

RhinoSoft (rhinosoft.com) is a leader in secure file transfer, with more than 90,000 business customers, including nine of the Fortune 10, in 90 different countries. Its award-winning and U.S. Army certified Serv-U FTP server software for Windows and Linux and FTP Voyager FTP client software support FTP, SFTP, FTPS and web-based HTTP/S transfers, while embracing emerging technologies such as mobile computing, IPv6, native 64-bit computing and UTF-8/Unicode internationalization.

SUSE (suse.com) is a leading provider of enterprise Linux solutions that increase agility, reduce cost and manage complexity in dynamic environments. With a portfolio centered on SUSE Linux Enterprise, the most interoperable platform for mission-critical computing, SUSE enables organizations to confidently deliver computing services across physical, virtual and cloud environments. With its award-winning products and ecosystem of partnerships, SUSE solutions empower thousands of organizations around the world.

Tutorial: Use Samba to Turn Your Linux Ubuntu Server into A PDC (Primary Domain Controller)

In this video I demonstrate how to configure Samba 3.5.6 to become a PCD (Primary Domain Controller). I first edit the smb.conf file and make a few changes. Lucky, most of the code needed is already in the conf file, it just needs to be un-commented. After I tweak the smb configuration file I create the necessary groups and users for the PDC to function correctly. From there I boot up a generic Windows XP VirtualMachine and login to the newly created domain. Finally I demonstrate the benefits of a PDC and talk about why you might want to create a PDC in your small business or home. *Update: Here is a link to my smb.conf file per request: goo.gl
